Mid-Shore Pro Bono Inc., was established as pilot project in July 2005 to address the need for increased pro bono legal representation in the Mid-Shore region. Its formation is the result of the Local Pro Bono Committees from Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne's and Talbot Counties joining efforts with the Circuit Courts from these counties to effectuate each of their respective Pro Bono Plans. The result is the first regional pro bono referral agency in the State and the only pro bono referral agency located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Now, Mid-Shore Pro Bono Inc., provides a vital function for low-income people on the Eastern Shore. This referral program provides access to legal services for all income eligible litigants in the region.
Mid- Shore Pro Bono is also adminstering the MLSC Judicare program.
Attorneys are paid at the rate of $80 per hour for the first 20 hours of representation in a contested domestic matter. The attorney must then provide the next five hours pro bono. For matters that require additional time for resolution, attorneys are eligible for an additional ten hours of paid representation at $80 per hour. Judicare attorneys are asked to accept one pro bono domestic case for every Judicare case referred. The pro bono domestic matters are generally uncontested or less complicated than Judicare cases. Attorney's interested in ths program should contact our office for more information.
Your donations and support are essential to the success of our program. Non monetary donations are also an important part of growth and we hope every attorney will donate one or two hours per month in pro bono services. We rely wholly on the expertise, skills and generosity of our panel attorneys.
"Rule 6.1 of the Maryland Rules of Professional Conduct suggests that full-time practicing attorneys should strive to provide 50 hours of pro bono service each year. The revised rule allows a provision that permits lawyers to "discharge" their pro bono responsibility by making financial contributions to the legal services organizations of their choosing. Mid-Shore Pro Bono Inc., will gratefully accept your donations. Donations by mail can be made by completing this form .
